post47_picWhat do automatic software updates mean to you?

Gone are the days, or so it seems, that “making something” meant that a water rocket was fabricated by the neighborhood kids and everyone gathered around to cheer on the first launch.

Nowadays, the maker revolution has a different look.  Twelve year old kids are creating applications and selling them, creating an environment where technology advancement is accelerating at such a rate that we can hardly keep pace.

We often feel like we are running a marathon at sprint speed, but can never quite see the finish line.

And yet, software users drive the advancement and force the industry to adopt new technologies that provide the solutions that they desire.  The maker revolution is pushing the boundaries into new territories using digital design and rapid releases.

If we look at our recent history and the impact Napster® had on users pushing an industry to embrace new technologies, we can understand the force that comes from user demands.  Users want more, in less time.

In order to keep pace with our technology advances we must update our dental software, at sprint speed.

Historically, updating dental software programs was a process that was intermittently embraced, causing many practices to be on outdated versions.  How many times have we experienced this scenario?

First, an office would receive an update CD and a printed manual.  They would then study the changes that would occur in their software and determine how it would impact their daily workflows.

The update packet gets set aside, usually on the doctor’s desk, until a frantic staff person goes in search of it months later because there is a needed change that is included in the update.

The manual is then passed around to train staff on the changes and how to use it.  That is, after they halted doing business so that they could install the update and hope that nothing goes wrong.  Time consuming and nerve racking, to say the least.

The great news is that technology today allows us to reach beyond our physical boundaries and update our dental software automatically, without user interaction.

“Today, we face a new reality.  The Internet has changed the distribution of software in radical ways.  Most software is now distributed online.  We are no longer limited by a physical manufacturing process and are free to work in much shorter release cycles.”  - Lean UX, by Jeff Gothelf with Josh Seiden

The day has come where your software can be kept up to date with the latest enhancements and fixes, without the user having to install the software update manually.  Gone are the days of installing from a CD.  Gone are the days of reading a paper manual that has chapters of information.  Gone are the days where massive updates happen to your software that overwhelms users with multiple changes to workflows.

The day has come that software updates can be transferred over the internet and automatically installed on computers.

And the beauty of DAISY Auto Updates is that the updates are small and manageable by the users, with information about the changes available at their fingertips!

DAISY dental practice management software users will get to experience this first hand this summer!

As our reality shifts from an update deluge that takes time to understand and install, to a new reality where it is done for you behind the scenes and ready for your use in the morning is like experiencing a water rocket launching.

Automatic updates to your dental practice management software are a right click.
