world wide webMany of you may have missed this special occasion, but on April 30th the World Wide Web (www) turned 20 years old.

This tool has changed many aspects of our lives, so the occasion deserves a special mention in this space.

In 1989 Tim Berners-Lee developed a technology to help physicists in universities around the world to share information.

On April 30, 1993 the European science agency CERN, where Berners-Lee worked, officially made the World Wide Web software public domain, letting everyone access it.

This led to Google, Facebook, Twitter and even Right Click Dentistry.

Now Berners-Lee did not invent the Internet.  The Internet already existed.  He simply invented the protocol that allowed content to be displayed and navigated through.

Do you remember the first website you ever looked at?  Was it a news site?  A search engine?  Maybe a product, hotel or airline reservation system?

If you are feeling nostalgic for some of those early websites you can visit the link below and use the “Wayback Machine” to remember what Yahoo.com looked like 15 years ago.

http://archive.org/web/web.php

Click on the link, enter a website address and it will show you when archive copies of the site were taken.  Then view the site.  Websites have come a long way.

According to a count done in March of last year there were 644,275,754 websites on the Internet.  Since Right Click Dentistry was added in July of last year, there must be 644,275,755 now.

So, Happy Birthday World Wide Web!

Starting next week this blog will be running a 3-part series on healthcare reform.

The series title “How Big of a Bite Will the Affordable Care Act Take Out of Your Dental Practice?”

This series will be authored by Tina Taylor, a licensed insurance agent: http://www.healthcaresolutionsteam.com/agent/tina-taylor/

Here’s what Tina says you can expect.

The Affordable Care Act will bring about significant changes in the very near future. We’re actually in the third year of Healthcare Reform and there is still a tremendous lack of education and awareness about what the ACA will entail beginning next January.

So many consumers are under the assumption that once January 1, 2014 rolls around, they will have access to free and unlimited health insurance.  Unfortunately, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Many of us will soon find out how expensive our “free healthcare” is going to be.

It is now more important than ever to learn the facts!  The more you know now, the better prepared you will be both as an individual consumer and as additional source of information for your patients.

During this three-part series, I will provide you with:

  •     A brief overview of the Affordable Care Act and resources that will help you better understand the impact that Healthcare Reform may have on you, your family and your business.
  •     Strategies to help you maintain and increase one of the most valuable assets of your dental practice- your active patient count!
  •     An alternative option to offering group health insurance that’s designed to provide a win-win outcome for you and your employees.

Taking advantage of this chance to be informed when your patients ask would be a right click.
